Governor Names Ricardo Azziz, M.D. to Stem Cell Oversight Committee

Ricardo Azziz, M.D., chairman of the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai, has been appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Independent Citizen's Oversight Committee that monitors the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine's distribution of state funds for stem cell research.

Azziz, who also serves as director of the Center for Androgen-Related Disorders at Cedars-Sinai and is the executive director of the Androgen Excess Society, has led numerous scientific studies of infertility and hormonal disorders, particularly androgen excess disorders, hirsutism and polycystic ovary syndrome. Recognized internationally for his expertise in reproductive endocrinology, he has directed several multinational studies.

Save A Heart Foundation Honors C. Noel Bairey Merz, M.D., at Gala

C. Noel Bairey Merz, M.D., will be honored for her medical achievement by the Save A Heart Foundation on November 19 at the 2006 Heart Saver Award Gala. Merz is medical director of the Women's Heart Program and the Preventative & Rehabilitative Cardiac Center at Cedars-Sinai. She also holds the Women's Guild Endowed Chair in Women's Health.

The 2006 awards gala, called "A Night at the Copa," will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.
