Memorial Service Scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 11 at CSMC

A memorial service celebrating the life of Arthur I. Johnson, M.D., former chief of staff at Cedars-Sinai, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. All medical staff members are invited to attend.


Effective October 1, a new federal law requires that ALL written prescriptions for Medi-Cal recipients be executed on tamper-resistant prescription pads.


Changes in Appearance of Web/VS Medication List

On August 14, a change in the Pharmacy computer system was completed, merging the medication and intravenous admixtures ordering systems. As a consequence of this change, the way some medications appear on the Web/VS medication lists has changed.

Cedars-Sinai hosted a reception in Harvey Morse Auditorium on August 27 to welcome Eduardo Marbán, M.D., as the new director of the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute. Dr. Marbán is the former chief of cardiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.


Cedars-Sinai patient Daryl Vinson, 39, desperately needed a heart transplant but was allergic to heparin. As a result, members of the medical center's heart transplant team took an unusual alternative -- using bivalirudin, a synthetic form of a protein found in the saliva of leeches that acts as a powerful anticoagulant.


How to Add a Surgery Case to Your Outlook Calendar via Web/VS

Web/VS allows you to add surgery cases to your Outlook Calendar directly from the OR Schedule. The details of the case, which includes location, date, time, case number, procedure, anesthesia type, surgeon and anesthesiologist, will display in your calendar at the appropriate time on the date of the procedure.



Effective Thursday, Sept. 6, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine will replace its current assay with a second generation cTnI assay with an order of magnitude greater effective sensitivity and precision.

Special Matrix Conference

A special presentation of the Matrix Conference -- The Department of Surgery Patient Safety Curriculum -- will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 8 a.m. in ECC-B. The conference, "The Embryology of Complications: Near Misses, Close Calls and Narrow Escapes," will be presented by Leo A. Gordon, M.D.
