A Surgical Option to Treat Depression

A new surgical option to treat depression, called Vagal Nerve Stimulation (VNS) treatment, has shown to be effective in certain cases.


Important Notice Regarding AB-487 Late Compliance

Cedars-Sinai has been unofficially advised that the Medical Board of California will accept late compliance with the AB-487 Pain Management and End-of-Life Care CME requirement (no outside date was specified).


FDA Orders Unapproved Quinine Drugs Off the Market

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this week ordered firms to stop marketing unapproved drug products containing quinine -- a drug used to treat malaria -- citing serious safety concerns, including deaths, associated with quinine products.

A key part of Cedars-Sinai's Clinical Information Technology strategic plan is beginning: the process to select a proven clinical system that will encompass Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Electronic Medication Administration Record, Multidisciplinary Clinical Documentation, Pharmacy and Decision support.

This clinical system will link with -- not replace -- several other existing clinical systems, such as CareVue, Centricity, EmSTAT, SIS, Watchchild, Lab and Imaging.


New regulation designed to reduce medication errors in California hospitals has gone into effect that will free pharmacists for greater involvement in direct patient care.

The FDA has issued an updated public health advisory about a serious new disease that may occur in patients with moderate to end-stage kidney disease after they have had an MRI or MR angiography (MRA) scan with a gadolinium-based contrast agent.
