To reduce the incidence of transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) nationwide, the American Red Cross has decided to preferentially distribute plasma from male donors. In addition, Cedars-Sinai will no longer accept plasma donations from women who have been pregnant.

FDA Alert Regarding Diprivan (Propofol)

The FDA has informed healthcare professionals about several clusters of patients who experienced chills, fever, and body aches shortly after receiving
propofol for sedation or general anesthesia.

Physicians at the Pain Center at Cedars-Sinai are using a new treatment approach for incapacitating facial pain that has shown promising results.


Sumner M. Redstone Prostate Cancer Research Program Opens at Cedars-Sinai

The Sumner M. Redstone Prostate Cancer Research Program was formally dedicated at Cedars-Sinai on Tuesday, June 26. The program will help support a six-year national prostate cancer study, as well as cancer drug development and clinical trial programs designed to bring new therapies and treatments to patients.

CHF Discharge Medication Reconciliation Reaches 94 Percent

I am pleased to announce that CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) Discharge Medication Reconciliation compliance for May reached 94 percent, placing Cedars-Sinai in the top 10 percent of all hospitals reporting on this measure.
