More Aggressive Screening Recommended for Colorectal Cancer

The current recommended age for screening starts at the age of 50, but most proactive physicians are starting to refer patients at an even earlier age.

Effective March 1, 2007

Per Medical Staff Rules & Regulations 4.19.1 and 4.19.2, a two-step process is required by physicians discharging Congestive Heart Failure patients: 1) Completion of the E-Discharge Medication List (available in Web/VS) with signature and 2) Dictation of the exact same list of medications.

FDA Issues Warning: Haloperidol Found in Some Internet Drugs

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has become aware that a number of Americans who placed orders for specific drug products over the Internet (Ambien, Xanax, Lexapro and Ativan) instead received a product that, according to preliminary analysis, contains haloperidol, a powerful anti-psychotic drug.

Nearly $300,000 was raised as legendary artists Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne and John Trudell came together last week for Give Love, Give Life, a February 22 benefit concert to increase awareness about ovarian cancer and support the Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer Research Institute (WCRI) at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.

Beginning Monday, March 5, Cedars-Sinai will implement a new anti-spam feature for all incoming Internet emails. This feature will redirect all incoming Internet emails marked as spam positive to a web-based quarantine.

Elaine Kamil, M.D., to Receive Nephrology Award from National Kidney Foundation

The National Kidney Foundation of Southern California will present Elaine S. Kamil, M.D., with "The Spirit of Nephrology Award" at the 28th Annual Gift of Life Celebration on Sunday, April 29, at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.


Linda Burnes Bolton, Dr.PH., R.N., F.A.A.N., Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Cedars-Sinai, is the recipient of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Stroke Team Awarded at AHA Stroke Conference

The Cedars-Sinai stroke team was presented with the American Heart Association's "Get with the Guidelines - Stroke Initial Performance Achievement Award" at the AHA's International Stroke Conference in San Francisco. The stroke team also presented original clinical research entitled "Basilar Artery Stenosis Predicts Territorial Pontine Infarction."
