Illegal Promotion of OxyContin May Cause Health Risks

The FDA informed healthcare professionals this week of criminal charges and civil liabilities brought against Purdue Frederick in connection with several illegal schemes to promote, market and sell OxyContin, a pain reliever that the company produces.

 
 
 

Beverly Center "Bomb Victims" Treated During May 17 Disaster Drill at CSMC

The Beverly Center and Cedars-Sinai this week teamed with the Los Angeles City Fire Department, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Medical Assistance Team for a disaster drill.

In the drill scenario, which began at 8:30 a.m., a bomb detonated in the 8th floor movie theatre of the Beverly Center. As "victims" staggered out of the mall, a second explosion -- an acid bomb -- detonated in an emergency exit stairway and contaminated some of the evacuees.


The Attending Staff Gomers Take on the Housestaff Blues this Sunday, May 20

Medical staff members are invited to come out and support their fellow physicians on Sunday, May 20, as the Attending Staff Gomers take on the Housestaff Blues at their 5th Annual basketball game, sponsored by the Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association and Community Health & Education.

Michael I. Lewis, M.D., has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2007 David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA "Award for Excellence in Education." Lewis and five other award recipients will be honored at a special reception on May 31 at the Wilson Student Center Terrace. In addition, award recipients will be honored at the 2007 UCLA Hippocratic Oath Ceremony on June 1.

 

 

New Reporting Requirement Goes into Effect July 1

As of July 1, 2007, a new California law (SB 1301) mandates that Department of Health Services (DHS) Facility Reporting Requirements include the "Never 27" list of diagnosis/reportable events.
