During his visits to Cedars-Sinai over the years, legendary artist Ray Charles often remarked on how impressed he was with the way that hospital staff treated everyone, regardless of their background, with the same level of respect and care.

Oct. 10 Memorial Service Scheduled to Honor Paul A. Kaufman, M.D.

A memorial service honoring the life of Paul A. Kaufman, M.D., Department of Surgery, will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

Modafinil (Marketed as Provigil): Serious Skin Reactions Reported

The FDA has been monitoring cases of serious skin reactions, including erythema multiforme (EM), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), in its postmarketing reviews of adverse event reports associated with the use of modafinil.


New Law Requires All Hospital Workers Receive Influenza Vaccinations

Medical staff members who wish to get their flu vaccination can now call Employee Health Services at (310) 423-3322 to schedule an appointment for a free flu shot. Walk-ins are also welcome.

In addition, the flu vaccine will be administered at various hospital locations on the following dates and times:

  • Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. in HM-4&5
  • Oct. 4 from 7 - 8:30 a.m. in HM-6
  • Oct. 8 from 2:45 - 5 p.m. in HM-1&2
  • Oct. 10 from 2:30 - 5 p.m. in ECC-C
  • Oct. 15 from 7 - 9:30 a.m. in CCR-A
  • Oct. 16-18 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. in CCR-A

Spencer Koerner, M.D., medical director of the Center for International Health and Telemedicine, was in Guam recently to meet with the top three health insurance companies there. During his visit, he was interviewed on Guam's top radio station.

Beth Y. Karlan, M.D., has been named the new Editor-in-Chief of Gynecologic Oncology, the medical journal of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists.


A brief network outage will occur on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 2 a.m. to allow the hospital to perform maintenance work on a key network component. This will impact computers in the North Tower only.
