Cedars-Sinai Named One of America's Best Hospitals 2008 by HealthGrades

Cedars-Sinai was named this week as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, a national independent healthcare ratings organization. This designation represents the healthcare industry's only quality ranking based solely on objective clinical outcomes among U.S. hospitals, according to HealthGrades.

Cedars-Sinai was one of only four hospitals in California recognized as a top performer by the organization. To select the 2008 designees, HealthGrades researchers analyzed approximately 100 million hospitalization records from nearly 5,000 hospitals, from the years 1999 to 2006.

"Our commitment and work in the area of quality and safety has allowed us to continually improve our clinical outcomes and decrease our mortality rates," said Neil Romanoff, M.D., vice president of Medical Affairs. "We should all be proud of this achievement and know that the tremendous dedication and skills of our medical staff play a critical role in making Cedars-Sinai one of the best hospitals in the world."

To be listed as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals, Cedars-Sinai had to demonstrate clinical outcomes among the top five percent in the nation, not just in one medical specialty, but aggregated across 27 different procedures and diagnoses. In addition, Cedars-Sinai had to maintain this superior level of care during all of the years studied.

Hospitals cannot apply for this independent analysis, and they cannot opt-in or out of being rated. To view a full copy of the HealthGrades analysis, click here to visit their website at http://www.healthgrades.com.
