Is there a special nurse you would like to acknowledge with an award? If so, nominations for the 2008 Maggie Stempson-Carter Excellence in Caring Award for eligible nurses will be accepted from March 17 through April 18.


Leo A. Gordon, M.D., has been appointed as physician advisor in the Community Relations Department. In this role, Dr. Gordon will engage members of the medical staff, patients and their families in the new Grateful Patient Program.


Automatic Antibiotic Expiration Alert in Web/VS

All antibiotic orders in non-ICU areas that are ordered without an MD-specified duration have an automatic expiration imposed on the 7th day of therapy, according to hospital policy.


 

The VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) team from the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute celebrated the first anniversary of the program on March 10 as physicians, nurses and patients living with a VAD gathered in Harvey Morse 1&2 for a special reunion. The first VAD was implanted at Cedars-Sinai on March 1, 2007, in heart patient Mark Heiner. Heiner, who received a left ventricular assist device, spoke movingly about his successful treatment and recovery at the celebration.

Account Sharing

A completed Computing Account Authorization Form (CAAF) is required for a Web/VS account. By signing the CAAF, it is understood that the password will not be shared with anyone.

Sharing your Web/VS password is a breach of confidentiality. Failure to comply with the agreement may result in disciplinary actions as noted on the CAAF.

 


 
 

Study Shows Mechanisms by which Capon Gene Causes Heart Rhythm Disturbances

A research team from the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, Johns Hopkins University and China Medical University and Hospital in Taiwan has described for the first time the mechanisms by which variants of a specific gene, CAPON or NOS1AP, can disrupt normal heart rhythm.
