Pioneer in Medicine Award Nominations Accepted Now through June 9

Nominations for the 2008 Pioneer in Medicine Award are being accepted now through Monday, June 9. Please note that only attending category members of the medical staff can submit nominations.

Imaging Case of the Month for May 2008

History: A 79-year-old female with a past medical history of hypertension, mild renal insufficiency and cervical cancer presented to the emergency room with a complaint of chest pain, duration less than one day. The patient reported that the pain had begun in the back and spread to the shoulders and anterior chest. A chest x-ray was obtained.

Change in Testing for Nuclear Antibody Testing

Multiplex bead immuno assay testing for nuclear antibodies and ANA are being discontinued, and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is resuming testing by Immunofluorescence for ANAs and by EIA for nuclear antigens. Click here for more information.



Medical Staff Names Betty Nersesian, R.N., as Maggie Stempson-Carter Award Recipient

Betty Nersesian, R.N., 8SW, affectionately known as "Nurse Betty," has been named the 2008 recipient of the Maggie Stempson-Carter Excellence in Caring Award. William Brien, M.D., Chief of Staff, and Chris Ng, M.D., co-chair of the MD/RN Collaborative, made the May 9 announcement during the Nurses Week awards ceremony.

Representatives of the American Heart Association recently presented Cedars-Sinai with its "Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Performance Achievement Award." The award recognizes our success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care.

ICU Electronic Medical Record

The ICU Report Capture Station and the CareVue ICU system provide the CareVue Reports and Flowsheets in Web/VS for ICU patients that use CareVue for charting.

The Cedars-Sinai Historical Conservancy is collecting all forms of memorabilia related to the history of the medical center. These materials include publications, books, programs, flyers, surgical instruments, photographs and all tsotchkes.

The Attending Staff Gomers will take on last year's winning team, the Housestaff Blues, on Sunday, May 18, beginning at 12 p.m. at the Beverly Hills High School swim gym.
