ASAP, Inpatient Phase 1 launch Nov. 14

At two recent meet and greets, physicians learned more about how they would be affected by the two new CS-Link systems that go live this weekend.

ASAP (the CS-Link program replacing EmSTAT in the Emergency Department) and Inpatient Phase 1 (the first part of the Inpatient system that will introduce the electronic medical administration record) will launch at midnight on Saturday, Nov. 14.

California adopts form

In 2009, California legally recognized the use of the "Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment" (POLST) form. Developed in Oregon in the early 1990s, the POLST is a physician's order that outlines a plan of end of life care in light of a patient's preferences and current medical condition. The bright pink forms are available at all nursing units as well as from the Palliative Care Team.

Physicians Acknowledged for Years of Service

At the Annual Meeting of the Medical Staff, the following physicians were inadvertently omitted from the program:

Michael Van Scoy-Mosher, M.D. (35 years)
Joel D. Feinstein, M.D. (30 years)
Trisha Roth, M.D. (25 years)
Louise C. Davis, M.D. (20 years)



Ballots due Monday, Nov. 16

Election ballots for the position of Chief of Staff for the term beginning Jan. 1, 2010, have been distributed to the medical staff. Please return completed ballots to the Medical Staff Office by 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16.

Howard I. Wilner, M.D., spent four decades as a member of the Cedars-Sinai physician family. Now, a plaque honoring his legacy is part of the Medical Staff Lounge.

Physicians, members of the Wilner family and others attended an unveiling ceremony in the lounge on Nov. 2.


Configuring Web/VS to View Inpatient & Outpatient Reports Together

You can configure your Web/VS user profile so that inpatient reports only or both inpatient and outpatient reports, are displayed on the Medical Records listing. The default setting is that inpatient reports only are displayed.


William Ganz, M.D., an internationally-recognized leader and inventor in heart medicine, died Tuesday night of natural causes. He was 90.

In 1970, Dr. Ganz and then-Chief of Cardiology H.J.C. Swan, M.D., invented a balloon-tipped catheter to assess heart function in critically ill patients.

All members of the medical staff are invited to attend a special celebration of the life of Dr. Stephen J. Uman on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium.
Dr. Uman, 62, passed away at his home on Nov. 6 from complications of amyloidosis.
