Cedars-Sinai's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved not adding Feraheme® to the formulary, adding Effient® with restrictions, and reviewed potential interactions between Tamiflu® and Plavix®.

Also, the FDA added a boxed warning to the hyperthyroidism drug propylthiouracil that includes information about reports of liver injury and failure.

Kidner takes debate trophy from Magner

The rematch of Kidner vs. Magner is now in the annals of history along with Ali vs. Frazier and Kasparov vs. Karpov.

This time, Travis Kidner, M.D., took the trophy with his arguments in favor of selling human organs to address the organ shortage in America. Dr. Kidner's fellow chief surgical resident, David Magner, M.D., argued for the opposition in the Seventh Annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition series.

A Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute cardiologist has been awarded a three-year, nearly $1 million grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to study whether drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction could also be used to improve muscle blood flow and reduce fatigue in muscular dystrophy patients.
