New Faces

Miguel Burch, M.D.

Dr. Burch is the associate director of General Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery in the Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai.

Dr. Burch's research interests include hormonal mechanisms of weight loss after gastric bypass surgery, as well as transoral incision-less anti-reflux surgery. He previously served as an assistant professor of Minimally Invasive,  Bariatric Surgery and Trauma at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center

 

Fardad Esmailian, M.D.

Dr. Esmailian recently joined the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute and has been named surgical director of the Heart Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Device Program.

Dr. Esmailian's patient focus is in the area of adult cardiac surgery, including heart transplantation, valve repair, ventricular assist devices (VADs) and bypass surgery. His laboratory research has focused on the study of stroke, surgical revascularization, heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices.

 

Robert Figlin, M.D.

Dr. Figlin has joined the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute as director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology and as associate director of the institute's Academic Development Program.

Dr. Figlin specializes in urologic and lung cancer treatments. He will help manage the institute's growing clinical trials program and oversee breast, prostate, lung, blood and bone cancer programs. Dr. Figlin previously served as chair of the Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutic Research at City of Hope.

 

Ali Khoynezhad, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Khoynezhad recently joined the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute and the Cedars-Sinai Department of Surgery as the director of the Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program. He has extensive experience in all areas of adult cardiac surgery with expertise in open, hybrid aortic procedures.

Dr. Khoynezhad is the principal investigator on numerous clinical trials and is a leading practitioner in endovascular and cardiovascular surgery. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Khoynezhad was director of Aortic and Endovascular Surgery and associate professor, Department of Surgery and Department of Biomedical Sciences, at Creighton University School of Medicine.
