Number of academic contributions among highest in the nation

For the fourth year in a row, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is being honored by the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) for its prolific research activities.

"Each and every faculty member, resident and house staff of our department should be proud of this extraordinary, collective achievement which is an outstanding recognition of the high caliber of academic activity that is currently ongoing in the department," said Mahul Amin, M.D., chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Cedars-Sinai was in the top seven in the number of first-authored scientific abstracts accepted for presentation at the academy's annual meeting, which will be held Marcy 20-26 in Washington, D.C.

Among the other honors from USCAP:

  • 39 abstracts were selected for platform or poster presentations
  • Four of our pathologists will be academy faculty presenting at the meeting's prestigious short courses
  • Rugvedita Parakh, M.D., was selected to receive a house staff award for research in urologic pathology

In related news, the College of American Pathologists has highlighted Cedars-Sinai for the department's more than 40 years of accreditation with the college.
