2 Minutes with ... Robert J. Siegel, M.D.

Dr. Siegel is director of the Cardiac Noninvasive Laboratory at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute and cardiology director of the Cedars-Sinai Marfan Center. He holds the Rexford S. Kennamer, M.D., Chair in Cardiac Ultrasound.

He took a few minutes away from the ultrasound machine to answer our questions.

Fundamentals of Jewish Thought – June 14 and 21

Jewish Chaplaincy invites everyone to join Rabbi Jason Weiner’s "Fundamentals of Jewish Thought" on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. in the Chapel. The class is studying the "Tanya," Jewish mystical thought. The class is also broadcast on Channel 19.

Treating Uterine Fibroids – June 16

Steven Raman, M.D., and Christopher Tarnay, M.D., will discuss MRI-guided focused ultrasound for the treatment of uterine fibroids at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, in Harvey Morse 1-3. The pair will describe a variety of nonsurgical therapies for fibroids and discuss trends and treatment outcomes. All healthcare professionals are invited to attend.

Mental Illness Documentary Screening – June 20

Cedars-Sinai's Psychological Trauma Center is holding a free screening of the award-winning documentary "No Kidding! Me 2!!" Directed by Joe Pantoliano of The Sopranos and Momento, the film sheds light on mental illness through discussions with Pantoliano and his family regarding his clinical depression, as well as the stories of five other people affected by bipolar disorder and ADHD among other things. The film will be shown from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 20, in Harvey Morse Auditorium. A panel discussion with mental health professionals will follow. Maria Callas Discussion and Documentary – June 21

Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association hosts an evening dedicated to the discussion and exploration of opera singer Maria Callas. Kathrine Bates, who will play the role of Callas in a future production, will speak prior to the screening of Tony Palmer’s 1977 documentary of the legendary singer, "Callas." The presentation starts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be provided. Admission is $15 for the general public and Cedars-Sinai employees and $5 for paid alumni members and those in training. Tickets are payable by cash or check only. I Feel a Lump … Now What? – June 30

Many women may feel a breast lump and wonder what they should do next. At this community education lecture, Cedars-Sinai experts will provide information to help you take the appropriate steps in the event that you feel a lump. The lecture takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, in Thalians Auditorium. Speakers will be Catherine Dang, M.D., associate director Wasserman Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Program, and Donald S. Cohen, M.D., Mammography section chief at the S.
