Cedars-Sinai Prostate Specialists Urge Screening, Intervention be Viewed Separately

The U.S. Health Services Preventative Task Force recently revised their recommendations on PSA screening in a manner that suggests that primary care physicians should not routinely use serum PSA testing to screen for prostate cancer. They cite several contemporary studies that show little to no survival benefit from PSA screening in support of this recommendation. At Cedars-Sinai, we believe that it is necessary to view screening and intervention separately.

The Cancer Committee is charged to monitor and report on oncology outcomes. For 2011, the Cancer Committee, under the direction of Beth Karlan, MD, selected Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and Prostate Cancer for the focus of this analysis.
