Gas Gift Cards, Laugh Factory Tickets for Blood and Platelet Donors - Month of April

This month, blood and platelet donors can enter weekly drawings for $100 Chevron gas gift cards. Drawings will take place on Tuesdays starting April 10. Also, everyone who donates through April 30 will receive one complimentary ticket for two admissions to the Laugh Factory's Hollywood or Long Beach locations (two drink minimum purchase required). To donate blood, contact John Barr at barrjx@cshs.org or ext. 3-2637. To donate platelets, contact Nina Vinick at vinickn@cshs.org or ext. 3-2414. The Rita and Taft Schreiber Blood Donor Facility is located in Room 1690 on the Street Level of the South Tower.

Fundamentals of Jewish Thought - April 17

Rabbi Jason Weiner's weekly class, "Fundamentals of Jewish Thought," is held on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. in the Chapel. For more information, contact Spiritual Care at ext. 3-5550.

Donate Life Awareness Day - April 20

Cedars-Sinai will mark National Donate Life Month with Blue and Green day on Friday, April 20. Employees are encouraged to wear the colors and can pose for a photo at noon (location to be announced). Staff will be on hand in ECC-B from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to register people for the national donor registry.

Yom Ha’Shoah Commemoration - April 23

Cedars-Sinai will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day with a program on Monday, April 23, from 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Daniel Goldhagen, author of the international bestseller Hitler’s Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust, will be the guest speaker.

Occupational Therapy Fair - April 24

Cedars-Sinai's Department of Occupational Therapy will host an Occupational Therapy Month Fair in Cafeteria Conference Room A on Tuesday, April 24, from noon to 1 p.m.

Reception for John G. Harold, MD - April 24

The Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute invites everyone to a reception to congratulate John Gordon Harold, MD, on his appointment as president-elect of the American College of Cardiology. Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition - April 26

The Ninth Annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 8 a.m. in ECC A-C. Matthew Singer, MD, will argue in proposition that the emergence of technology in medicine has strengthened the doctor-patient relationship. Omar Hussain, MD, will take the position that technology has weakened the relationship.

Annual Women and Ischemic Heart Disease Symposium - April 27

The purpose of this conference is to close the knowledge gap of physicians and allied healthcare professionals regarding sex-specific differences in cardiovascular disease and the impact these differences have on treatment options. It also will highlight the importance of identifying women at risk for cardiovascular disease and utilizing the most current evidence-based treatment strategies for improved patient outcomes. Obstructive Lung Diseases: Clinical and Pathophysiologic Approach to Evaluation and Management - April 28
This one-day live conference is geared to providing the practicing clinician with the latest clinical and translational insights and advances in obstructive lung diseases, which are key to providing state of the art work-up and treatment in 2012. Housestaff Blues vs. Attending Staff Gomers Basketball Game - May 6

The Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association and Community Health and Education will sponsor the 10th annual basketball game on Sunday, May 6, at the Beverly Hills High School "Swim Gym." There will be free food and drinks at this event, which is open to the community. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the game starts at noon.

An Introduction to the MMPI-2-RF - June 15

This six-hour workshop on Friday, June 15, introduces the 338-item version of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Restructured Form. The program is designed for psychologists, neuropsychologists, students and other health practitioners interested in mental health and the assessment of psychological conditions. The event will be held in Thalians Auditorium with breakfast and registration starting at 8:30 a.m. the program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hollywood Bowl Concert and Fireworks - July 3

Celebrate our country's Independence Day with rousing patriotic music and the familiar tunes of special guest Barry Manilow at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday, July 3. Annual Sand N' Snore - July 20

Dig out the camping gear for this annual event at the Jonathan Beach Club in Santa Monica. Set up your tent at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 20, enjoy a BBQ dinner and a night of fun with family and colleagues. Breakfast served the next morning. Tickets limited to physicians and their immediate family. Cost is $60 per adult and $40 per child under age 12. Limit one tent per physician.
