Kappa:lambda ratio reference range adjusted

Kappa and lambda free light chain (FREELITE™) testing on serum is moving to a new instrument platform, SPAPLUS™, on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Thus, the kappa:lambda ratio range will be changed to 0.26-1.65 (from 0.19-1.42) that day.

Testing is moving from a third-party platform to one designed and validated by Binding Site, the assay manufacturer, specifically for their free light chain assays.

The reference ranges for kappa and lambda light chains both were adjusted individually about nine months ago per current manufacturer recommendations. However, the kappa:lambda ratio was not adjusted at that time. It now will be adjusted slightly in keeping with the manufacturer’s recommended range.

If there are any questions or concerns, contact the Special Testing Section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at (310) 423-5571.
