Medical Staff Leadership Development Program starts new session in September

Cedars-Sinai's Medical Staff Leadership Development Program will start a new session in September. The program is aimed to train and motivate future physician leaders. Participants are nominated by department chairs and members of the Medical Executive Committee.

The program curriculum includes a series of evening lectures once a month from medical staff leaders and members of Cedars-Sinai's executive management team to provide an overview of healthcare management and policy, as well as performance improvement methodology.

Also included in the curriculum is an offsite weekend retreat on a selected theme. Previous retreats covered topics on medical staff governance, health information technology, and team building and leadership skills.

As part of the program, participants manage a performance improvement project that affects their patients and practice, allowing hands-on use of the tools and concepts introduced in the program. Participants also receive continuing medical education credits and networking opportunities.

The program began in 2001 and is co-sponsored by the MEC and Cedars-Sinai's president and chief executive officer. It requires a nine-month commitment from selected medical staff members and is co-chaired by the immediate past chief of staff and a recent graduate of the program.
