Medical staff members enjoy fireworks, Barry Manilow at Hollywood Bowl

Joining a capacity crowd at the Hollywood Bowl on July 3, more than 360 medical staff members and their families enjoyed a night of patriotic music, spectacular fireworks and a special performance by American pop icon Barry Manilow, who led the Bowl's popular tribute to our nation's birthday.

The show kicked off with a rousing rendition of patriotic standards performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Then Manilow entered the stage to a roaring crowd waving their Bowl-provided light sticks in unison. He sang many of his greatest hits from the past 40 years, including “Copacabana” and “I Write the Songs.”

“I was the Justin Bieber of the '70s,” Manilow joked during his hour-long performance. “Ask your mother,” he added.

At evening's end, the Los Angeles Philharmonic set the musical backdrop for a breathtaking display of fireworks.

The annual medical staff event was organized by Marjorie Santore-Besson, director of System Affairs, and Cheryl Verne, executive assistant. Marjorie and Cheryl are also organizing tonight's popular Sand ‘n Snore event for the medical staff at the Jonathan Beach Club.Look for photos of this event in a future issue of Pulse.
