Patient classification orders alert expanded

CS-Link update for physicians

The pilot on the 5thfloor with a CS-Link™ alert to remind physicians to enter patient classification orders has been expanded to the 7th floor. Classification Orders include "observation" status and "inpatient" status.

Physicians must enter patient classification ("admissions") orders into their patients' medical records so they can bill for care when patients are hospitalized. If audited, physicians are at risk of having to return monies collected for hospital care they provided if the appropriate patient classification order was not documented in the chart.

The alert pictured below is designed to guide physicians to provide patient classification orders if they have forgotten to do so.The alert will not launch if appropriate patient classification orders are entered at the time physicians are entering "admission orders."

Physicians can use the “help” button in CS-Link to provide feedback.

The training update – “Responding to Admission Best Practice Advisories” – can be found at www.cslinkcentral.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/MD0056_RespondingToAdmissionnBPAs.pdf
