Using Your Dog's Name as Your Password? It's Time for a Change

Debra Wong, MD, works on a password update at a CS-Link computer with Spencer Soohoo, PhD, chief security officer.

Once you change your password, it will never expire. And if you changed your password after November 2011 to meet the new security standards for CS-Link and Cedars-Sinai email, you do not have to do anything further.

“Making our passwords more secure is an important measure to protect our privacy and our patients’ confidentiality,” says Chief of Staff Steven Galen, MD. “A permanent upgrade also makes our lives easier because you will never have to change your password again.”

If your password has not been upgraded yet, EIS will be contacting you to help you change your password. If you would like to change it before they contact you via email, there are three options to choose from:

  • Go to http://mycslink.org/touca.aspx for instructions and follow the link to Password Manager. Be sure you register in Password Manager and change your password!
  • Call the Clinical End User Support Desk at (310) 423-2828 for assistance
  • Stop by the Physician Resource Center (Room 2806) in the North Tower, Plaza Level

The new password requirements are:

  • Must be at least eight characters long;
  • Must contain three of these four attributes:
    • Lowercase letter
    • Uppercase letter
    • Number
    • Special character ($, *, etc.)
  • Must not contain part of the user's first name, last name or username
  • Must not reuse a previous password

"I strongly urge physicians to change their password to meet these new requirements as soon as possible since their old passwords will expire in the near future. We are obligated to comply with mandated security standards to protect patient confidentiality, and this will help us meet those standards," said Spencer Soohoo, PhD, chief security officer at Cedars-Sinai.

Physicians who changed their password just prior to or as part of their CS-Link training can request an exemption by filling out the attestation form at http://mycslink.org/touca-password-change-exemption.aspx#.
