2012 Upgrade Preview for CS-Link Users – March 5

Association for Women in Science Monthly Coffee Hour – March 11

Everyone interested in promoting women in science is invited to this monthly coffee meeting, which takes place the second Tuesday of each month from 4-5 p.m. in Davis 1004.

Succeeding in the New World of Healthcare Reform – March 11

Scott Weingarten, senior vice president and chief clinical transformation officer, will speak to the topic on Tuesday, March 11, from 5-7 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Sinus Center Patient and Community Outreach Conference – March 12

The first in a series of Sinus Center conferences will take place Wednesday, March 12, from 6-7 p.m. in the Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion, PEC 8. The presenter will be Martin Hopp, MD, PhD, medical director of the Cedars-Sinai Sinus Center. The conference will combine lectures with an open forum and a question-and-answer session about sinus disease and problems of the ear, nose and throat. Light refreshments will be served.

Human Organs on Chips as Tools for Disease Modeling, Drug Delivery – March 13

"Human Organs on Chips as Tools for Disease Modeling and Drug Delivery" will be presented by Donald E. Ingber, MD, PhD, founding director of the Wyss Institute and professor of vascular biology and bioengineering at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. The event will take place Thursday, March 13, from noon-1 p.m. in the Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion, PEC 6-7. Lunch will be provided.

Current Concepts and Challenges in the Management of Pain – March 15

To begin the process of managing pain, doctors must have an understanding of the mechanisms of pain and the pharmacology of analgesic medications, along with the time to make a referral for more complex care. This course will provide background and an update to address these issues by highlighting the clinical science of pain medicine and state-of-the-art therapies. Transforming Moral Distress Into Integrity and Resilience – March 19

The topic will be discussed by Cynda Rushton, PhD, RN, Anne and George L. Bunting Chair in Clinical Ethics and professor of Nursing in the Department of Acute and Chronic Care at The Johns Hopkins University of School of Nursing. The Ethics Noon Conference will take place Wednesday, March 19, from noon-1 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. The conference is sponsored by the Center for Healthcare Ethics.

Doctors and the Arts – March 19

Americo Simonini, MD, a Cedars-Sinai cardiologist and an actor, director, writer and producer, will speak about the history of medicine and art, and his experience in combining them. He will also perform the lead role in the stage production "Frank and Ava," about Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. The event, organized by the Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association, will take place Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Admission is $20 for the general public and Cedars-Sinai employees, $10 for paid alumni association members, and $5 for volunteers and those in training. RSVP to martin@cshs.org.

Eighth Annual Women and Ischemic Heart Disease Symposium – April 25

The purpose of this conference is to close the knowledge gap of physicians and allied healthcare professionals regarding sex-specific differences in cardiovascular disease and the impact these differences have on treatment options, and to highlight the importance of identifying women at risk for cardiovascular disease and of utilizing the most current evidence-based treatment strategies for improved patient outcomes. Office Orthopedics Symposium: The Essentials of Nonoperative Musculoskeletal Care – May 10

This course is for primary care and family practice physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and other healthcare professionals interested in providing nonoperative musculoskeletal care. Pediatrics State of the Art 2014 – June 7

This symposium will provide pediatric providers with the latest information regarding the evaluation, treatment and management of complex conditions commonly seen in the pediatric medical home. The course will provide information about the role of tertiary specialty care, with emphasis on a multidisciplinary team approach regarding common yet challenging pediatric conditions.
