RN From 8SW Wins Stempson-Carter Award

Chief of Staff Chris Ng, MD, presents Rema Pendon, RN, CN III, with the Maggie Stempson-Carter Award.

The medical staff honored Rema Pendon, RN, CN III, with the Maggie Stempson-Carter, RN, Excellence in Caring Award during this year's Nurses Week celebration, held May 7 in Harvey Morse Auditorium.

Pendon joined Cedars-Sinai in 2000 and works on 8 Southwest. She was chosen for the award by the medical staff selection committee chaired by Chris Ng, MD, chief of staff. Committee members were Antonio Conte, MD, Andrew Freedman, MD, Robert Goodman, MD, Eve Newhart, MD, and Farzin Samadi, MD.

"We received 30 nominations from the medical staff this year, and I would like to thank those who took the time to recognize our nursing colleagues," Ng said.

The Maggie Stempson-Carter Award is the medical staff's highest nursing honor. It is given each year to a Cedars-Sinai nurse who exemplifies professionalism, clinical excellence and caring.

Originally known as the Excellence in Caring Award, it was renamed in 2005 in honor of the late Maggie Stempson-Carter, RN, who received the award in 2004.
