Stuart J. Marylander, Cedars-Sinai's First President, 1931-2014

Stuart J. Marylander, the first president of Cedars-Sinai, died Sept. 1. He was 82. Marylander served the institution for more than five decades, including 18 years as Cedars-Sinai's first president in a tenure that ended in 1988. He led the creation and expansion of the medical center.

Physicians with patients being treated for cellulitis will find it easier to document their care by using a new interactive pathway now available on CS-Link™. The updated cellulitis care pathway replaces the original pathway launched in January 2014 and is much simpler to navigate.

Hydrocodone Products in Schedule II as of Oct. 6

Pharmacy Focus

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is placing all hydrocodone combination products into Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act. The products have been in Schedule III. The new, stricter classification takes effect Oct. 6. It applies to medications including Norco, Vicodin, Hycodan and Lortab.

Epocrates, a point-of-care medical application, now is available to all medical staff members through the Cedars-Sinai Medical Library.

Premature Babies Spending Less Time in the NICU

The amount of time premature babies spend in the Cedars-Sinai Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, part of the Maxine Dunitz Children's Health Center, has declined dramatically during the past three years, with the average length of stay dropping from 21 days to 17 days.

Marking the High Holidays at Cedars-Sinai

Senior Rabbi Jason Weiner, manager of Spiritual Care, will conduct services for the High Holidays at Cedars-Sinai. The services – Rosh Hashanah on Sept. 25, Kol Nidre on Oct. 3 and Yom Kippur on Oct. 4 – also will feature cantor Jordan Gorfinkel.

The Circle of Friends program honored 117 people in August. Circle of Friends allows grateful patients to make a donation in honor of the physicians, nurses, caregivers and others who have made a difference during their time at Cedars-Sinai.
