Web/VS Direct Access Ends Sept. 8

Dear Colleagues,

Direct login access to Web/VS will remain active until Sept. 8, 2015, for physicians. The original "cutoff" date, which was Aug. 3, was postponed for several reasons. Large numbers of physicians' office staff members still have no CS-Link™ access. Please ensure that your staff members have established access to CS-Link.

More Details About Oct. 1 Transition to ICD-10

Less than five weeks remains until Cedars-Sinai changes its coding classification system from ICD-9 to ICD-10. Until the transition is complete on Oct. 1, updates and requests for assistance will continue, with the goal of ensuring a seamless transition and mitigating negative impact on the organization. Helping Cedars-Sinai meet this goal will be the information gathered during the nearly two years of its dual coding system, which uses both ICD-9 and ICD-10.

Cedars-Sinai has upgraded its UpToDate subscription to UpToDate Anywhere. Within CS-Link™ or through the UpToDate website, medical staff members can take advantage of several enhancements.

Understanding Your Medical Credit Report

Dear Colleagues,

The recent ProPublica release of individual surgeon performance has raised both awareness and concern among physicians. Their reporting mechanism has some flaws, but draws from a large, publicly available database of Medicare patients, and we are likely to see much more of its kind in the near future. Therefore, it is more important than ever to look at your report, and have someone help you navigate the dashboard.

Jack Matloff, MD, Leader in Cardiothoracic Surgery

Jack Matloff, MD, the founding chair and chair emeritus of the Cedars-Sinai Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, died at Cedars-Sinai on Aug. 20. He was 82. Matloff was a respected teacher, pioneer and visionary in medicine and in health policy.

Milton Heifetz, MD, Renowned Neurosurgeon

Milton Heifetz, MD, died on Aug. 19, 2015, at the age of 94, at his home in Truckee. Heifetz was an internationally renowned neurosurgeon who had been on the Cedars-Sinai emeritus medical staff since 1991.

Clinical Documentation Course Continues Sept. 1

Participants Can Earn Two Continuing Medical Education Credits

Members of the medical staff can take a "Clinical Documentation Integrity Power Course for Physicians" that meets the first Tuesday of each month through Dec. 1. The Sept. 1 and Oct. 6 sessions will take place from from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in Harvey Morse 4-5. Participants need to attend just one session. Two continuing medical education credits will be available.

ICD-10 Sessions for Physicians Set for Sept. 21-22

ICD-10 educational sessions for physicians are scheduled for Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-22. These CME activities will provide physicians with information on the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision.

New Method Improves Heparin Monitoring

The Department of Pharmacy Services and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are collaborating to provide an improved monitoring method for patients on therapeutic heparin infusions.

Core Lab to Offer FT3 Testing in House

On Oct. 1, the Core Lab will begin testing free T3 (FT3) in house with a Roche immunoassay. FT3 was previously a send-out to Quest Diagnostics (Siemens immunoassay). The reasons for the change are to shorten the turnaround time to result and to offer a more complete menu of thyroid-related testing in house.

Circle of Friends Honorees for July

The Circle of Friends program honored 101 people in July. Circle of Friends allows grateful patients to make a donation in honor of the physicians, nurses, caregivers and others who have made a difference during their time at Cedars-Sinai.
