Recognition for Berci, Henry, Karlan, Klein, Miraflor, Murry

George Berci, MD, has won the Jerome and Hazel Tobis Award from the Ethics Center at the University of California, Irvine. Timothy Henry, MD, has been named a master fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Beth Y. Karlan, MD, has been elected to the Harvard University Board of Overseers. Keith L. Klein, MD, presented a paper at the annual conference of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Emily Miraflor, MD, and Jason Murry, MD, have been named winners of the Excellence in Teaching With Humanism Residents and Fellows Award from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Important Changes Coming for Web/VS

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to inform you of significant upcoming changes to Web/VS. As of Monday, Aug. 3, Web/VS will be accessible only from within CS-Link™. Direct login access to Web/VS for physicians will be disabled. You will still be able to use Web/VS as an alternate viewing platform and for retrieval of clinical information recorded prior to 2007.

ICD-10 Sessions for Physicians Set for June 23-24

ICD-10 educational sessions for physicians are scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday, June 23-24. These CME activities will provide physicians with information on the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision.

Clinical Documentation Course Continues July 7

Participants Can Earn Two Continuing Medical Education Credits

Members of the medical staff can take a "Clinical Documentation Integrity Power Course for Physicians" that meets the first Tuesday of each month through Dec. 1. The July 7 session takes place from from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in Harvey Morse 4-5. Participants need to attend just one session. Two continuing medical education credits will be available.

Jain Wins Debate With Critique of Fee-for-Service

More than 300 people filled Harvey Morse Auditorium on June 5 as Derek Serna-Gallegos, MD, and Monica Jain, MD, faced off in the 12th annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition. Jain, who answered the debate question of "Can Fee-for-Service Medicine Survive?" with a firm "no," was declared the winner.

Nominations Sought for Pioneer in Medicine Award

Deadline for Submissions Is Aug. 10

Attending physicians on the medical staff are encouraged to nominate a candidate for the 2015 Pioneer in Medicine award. This award is given to a member of the medical staff who has made clinical and research contributions recognized at Cedars-Sinai and in the national or international medical communities. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Aug. 10.

Reich, Vanichsarn Receive 2015 Rubenstein Prize

Heidi Reich, MD, and Christopher Vanichsarn, MD, have won the 2015 Paul Rubenstein, MD, Prize for Excellence in Resident Research. Each received a $3,000 cash prize. Reich and Vanichsarn were among four finalists selected to present their abstracts at the event, which drew over 80 attendees.

Transplant Center Wins Top Design Award

With its airy floor plan, stunning views and design elements that reflect a singular attention to detail, the Cedars-Sinai Comprehensive Transplant Center has won the Calibre Award, a top prize bestowed by the International Interior Design Association's Southern California chapter, in the Health and Wellness category.

Cedars-Sinai Graduation Brings Pride, Reflection

The third commencement of the Cedars-Sinai Graduate Program in Biomedical Science and Translational Medicine was an occasion for reveling in achievement — and reflecting on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the five new PhDs. The June 10 event also marked the inaugural awarding of the PRISM prize to faculty for outstanding scientific breakthroughs.

The Circle of Friends program honored 223 people in May. Circle of Friends allows grateful patients to make a donation in honor of the physicians, nurses, caregivers and others who have made a difference during their time at Cedars-Sinai.

Founders Day Makes Game of Cedars-Sinai History

With a game-show quiz, a reprint of an unintentionally hilarious cafeteria menu from 1973 and the display of a copy of the Ten Commandments made for the film of the same name, the second annual Founders Day celebration, held June 5 in Harvey Morse Auditorium, was a cheery, breezy and festive affair.
