Elliot Hogg, MD, has received a stipend from the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, TingTing Hong, MD, PhD, has received two grants from the American Heart Association, and Vinay Sundaram, MD, was the lead author of a published study that identified obesity as independently associated with infection in end-stage liver disease.

Murthy Named Vice President for Medical Affairs

Murthy

Rekha Murthy, MD, has been named vice president for Medical Affairs and associate chief medical officer at Cedars-Sinai. She assumes the post July 1. Murthy succeeds Neil Romanoff, MD, who is retiring June 30 after 25 years at Cedars-Sinai.

New Aid-in-Dying Law Goes Into Effect in June

On June 9, California's "End of Life Options Act" goes into effect. The law will allow patients to request, receive and ingest aid-in-dying medication as long as they meet certain qualifications and go through the correct process. As part of Cedars-Sinai's preparation for the law, the Center for Healthcare Ethics is asking all staff members to answer a few questions in a confidential survey.

The 13th Annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition will convene Friday, June 3, at 8 a.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. This year's topic is "Physicians and Social Media: Threat to Professionalism or an Essential Part of Contemporary Medical Practice?"

Library Membership Means Discounts for Authors

The Cedars-Sinai Medical Library has become a supporting member of BioMed Central, a publisher of open-access, peer-reviewed journals. The membership means that a submitting author from Cedars-Sinai can receive a 15 percent discount on an article processing charge when an article is accepted for publication in a BioMed Central or SpringerOpen journal.
