New Codes Issued for Advance Care Planning

The Cedars-Sinai Quality Council has identified improving end-of-life care as a high priority for this year. Areas of focus include improving advance care planning and documentation of patient goals and values for healthcare. The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have issued two new Current Procedural Terminology codes (99497 and 99498) to reimburse physicians for their time performing advance care planning.

In many situations, adding a clinical image in CS-Link enhances your note. Using Haiku or Canto on your smartphone or tablet, you can take a picture that will go into the media tab and can, with two clicks, be imported to your note.

App Puts Care Information at Patients' Fingertips

With the tap of a finger, patients in the Cedars-Sinai Postpartum and Advanced Heart Failure units can use a tablet computer to view their lab test results, upcoming and recently administered medications, anticipated discharge dates and a host of additional information that traditionally has been tucked away in medical charts.

Course Covers Radiation Safety During Fluoroscopy

Cedars-Sinai physicians can attend a new class on radiation safety during fluoroscopy. The first session of the class, developed in response to a change in state law, will take place Monday, Feb. 29, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium.

Better Insulin Service Among Core Lab Changes

The Core Laboratory in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine will go live with insulin via Roche immunoassay on March 31. This will be an improvement in service with same day turnaround time, particularly for inpatients, since the lab has not offered insulin in-house previously.

Deadline for 2016 PRISM Prize Nominees Is April 1

Nominations are open for the 2016 Cedars-Sinai Prize for Research in Scientific Medicine, which is designed to recognize and encourage a scientific and medical breakthrough in basic or clinical/translational science. The deadline for applications is April 1.

Patients Can Now Get Discharge Rx at Bedside

Patients may now have their discharge prescriptions delivered to their bedside before they go home. The program allows patients to request their medications at the Cedars-Sinai Outpatient Pharmacy in the Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion prior to being discharged. They just need to speak with their pharmacist, nurse or doctor.

Cedars-Sinai Hosts CIRM-Israel Pact Signing

Cedars-Sinai on Feb. 8 hosted the signing of a major agreement to advance U.S-Israeli collaboration on stem cell research. The pact, between the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Israel's Ministry of Science, Technology and Space, provides a new framework to foster global partnerships and joint funding opportunities in regenerative medicine.
