Reminder: CURES Registration Deadline Is July 1

All California licensed providers authorized to prescribe scheduled drugs, and all pharmacists, are required to register with the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System by July 1.

The event, marking the one-year anniversary of President Barack Obama's Precision Medicine Initiative, brought together medical researchers, clinicians, community advocates and others from around the country.

Computer Beats Paper for Prescribing, Study Finds

The computer beats paper when it comes to prescribing drugs and ordering laboratory tests at hospitals, according to a study led by Teryl Nuckols, MD, MSHS, director of the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Cedars-Sinai Department of Medicine. The study found that computerized provider order entry reduced prescription errors and saved money.

Recognition for Bairey Merz, Gordon, Karlan, Liu

Physician News

C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, has won an award from the American College of Cardiology, Leo Gordon, MD, spoke at a major Jewish community center in Irvine, Beth Y. Karlan, MD, briefed a congressional panel about ovarian cancer, and George Y. Liu, MD, was recognized by NPR for a significant — if accidental — discovery.

Deadline for 2016 PRISM Prize Nominees Is April 1

Nominations are open for the 2016 Cedars-Sinai Prize for Research in Scientific Medicine, which is designed to recognize and encourage a scientific and medical breakthrough in basic or clinical/translational science. The deadline for applications is April 1.
