Rabbi Hier to Speak at Yom Ha'Shoah Event

Cedars-Sinai will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day with its 33rd annual Yom Ha'Shoah event on Friday, April 21, from noon to 1 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium.

The program will feature Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Under Hier’s leadership, the center and its highly regarded Museum of Tolerance have become global forces for Jewish human rights.

This year’s program marks the 75th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference, the 1942 gathering of senior Nazi officials in Berlin to discuss what they termed the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question" — the systematic extermination of millions of European Jews.

Hier will share the story of Eduard Schulte, a prominent German industrialist and anti-Nazi spy who leaked the first reports of the Final Solution to leading Jewish organizations and Allied nations during World War II. At the time, Schulte’s information was largely ignored, but today his courageous efforts have solidified his standing as an unsung hero.

The event is open to the public. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.
