CS-Link PCU Appropriateness Enhancement Is Live

A new best practice advisory is now active in CS-Link™ to help identify patients who may no longer require Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care. The initiative, which went into effect April 12, is one of several strategies aimed at improving appropriate use of PCU beds. The move is designed to ensure that this level of care is available for patients who meet the approved criteria.

Rabbi Hier to Speak at Yom Ha'Shoah Event

Cedars-Sinai will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day with its 33rd annual Yom Ha'Shoah event on Friday, April 21, from noon to 1 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. The program will feature Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

Dodgers and Cedars-Sinai Celebrate New Season

As the official medical center of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cedars-Sinai is gearing up for the 2017 baseball season with staff ticket discounts and promotional events at the ballpark. Physicians will be able to save more than 40 percent off regular ticket prices for select games when purchasing through a special website for Cedars-Sinai staff.

The 14th annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition will convene on Friday, June 2. The debate committee is soliciting topics that are timely and relevant to all specialties.

Summer Is Coming, and So Are Fireworks

Celebrate Independence Day at the Hollywood Bowl with fireworks and music by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and a special musical guest, Grammy-winning a cappella group Pentatonix. The event on Monday, July 3, is open to Cedars-Sinai physicians and their immediate family members. Cost is $140 per adult and $70 per child 3-11 years of age.

The Circle of Friends program honored 378 people in March. Circle of Friends allows grateful patients to make a donation in honor of the physicians, nurses, caregivers and others who have made a difference during their time at Cedars-Sinai.

FDA Issues Update on Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently dropped the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy requirements for the erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) products Epogen/Procrit and Aranesp. ESAs are used to treat anemia resulting from chronic kidney disease, chemotherapy and certain treatments for human immunodeficiency virus, and to reduce the number of blood transfusions during and after certain major surgeries.

CS-Link Tip: CURES Update

Under CURES, the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System, healthcare practitioners are supposed to check the designated database within 24 hours before prescribing a controlled substance to a patient the first time. CURES can be accessed through CS-Link™.
