Marbán Honored With Pioneer in Medicine Award

Eduardo Marbán, MD, PhD, received the prestigious 2017 Pioneer in Medicine award at the recent Medical Staff Annual Meeting. Marbán is the founding director of the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, which ranks as the top heart program in the western U.S. and performs more adult heart transplants annually than any other institution worldwide.

Graduate Student Symposium Bigger Than Ever

Ahmed Ibrahim, PhD, recalls Cedars-Sinai's first graduate student symposium as a modest event. "It was small," he said of the 2012 gathering. "But there was a lot of excitement and students walked away with a lot of pride." On Oct. 20, Ibrahim attended a vastly expanded event — this time not as a student but as a new Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute faculty member and a judge for the research poster contest. What was once a six-school symposium with about 100 attendees had swelled to more than 20 schools and 180 attendees, the most ever.

Staff Can Enter Drawing to Win Clippers Tickets


Staff has an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to an NBA game thanks to Cedars-Sinai's partnership with the Los Angeles Clippers. Clipper tickets will be made available to Cedars-Sinai staff through a series of random drawings. Staff may enter only once and can win only once this season. Winners will be notified by email before each home game.

The Molecular Pathology Laboratory will offer a new method for quantitative PCR analysis of BCR-ABL1 major (p210, e13a2 and e14a2) fusion transcripts beginning Monday, Nov. 6.

The Cedars-Sinai Medical Library is offering a variety of classes in October and November. Each class begins at noon in the Medical Library, on the Plaza Level of the South Tower, Room 2815.

Cedars-Sinai gave five staff members pairs of tickets to Game 2 of the World Series. The winners, chosen through a random drawing, enjoyed premium seats at Dodger Stadium.
