Annual Yom Ha'Shoah Event to be Held April 11

Wolf Gruner

Cedars-Sinai will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day in an event on Wednesday, April 11, featuring Wolf Gruner, professor of history at the University of Southern California and founding director of the USC Shoah Foundation Center for Advanced Genocide Research.

Gruner, who holds the Shapell-Guerin chair in Jewish Studies at the University of Southern California, is the author of 10 books on the Holocaust and is a member of the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial. His remarks, "Defiance and Protest: Forgotten Individual Jewish Resistance in Nazi Germany," will discuss new research showing that Jews performed acts of resistance in Nazi Germany from 1933-1945.

This year's program, to be held at the Harvey Morse Auditorium from noon to 1 p.m., will be the 34th annual Yom Ha'Shoah event at Cedars-Sinai. It will include a special candle-lighting ceremony and a recitation of the Mourner’s Kaddish, the Jewish prayer for the deceased.

The event is open to the public, and lunch will be served.
