Chikwe, MD, Named Founding Chair of Department of Cardiac Surgery

Joanna Chikwe, MD, has been selected as the founding chair of the new Department of Cardiac Surgery. Chikwe comes to Cedars-Sinai from the Mount Sinai Health System in New York, where she is a professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, and where she served as Program Director of the Residency and Fellowship Programs and founding Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Mount Sinai St. Luke's. She will join Cedars-Sinai on Sept. 9.

Commemorating Passover at Cedars-Sinai

Cedars-Sinai is marking Passover, which runs from the evening of Friday, April 19, to the evening of Saturday, April 27. Throughout the holiday, a variety of kosher-for-Passover food selections will be available in the Ray Charles Cafeteria. For more information, call Spiritual Care at ext. 3-5550.

Special Day Shows Appreciation for Physicians

Cedars-Sinai leadership, nurses and staff turned out for National Doctors' Day recently to show their gratitude for physicians. The day featured breakfast treats, bakery goodies and tokens of appreciation. The annual observance, which honors physicians for their work with patients and the community, was held on March 29.

18 Employees Honored With President's Award

Co-workers, family members and friends turned out April 16 to honor the latest recipients of the Cedars-Sinai President’s Award. The President's Award is the most prestigious award of recognition at Cedars-Sinai.

Annual Yom Ha'Shoah Event to be Held May 2

An address by Rick Richman, who has written about an effort early in World War II to form a Jewish army to battle Hitler, will highlight the 35th annual Yom Ha’Shoah Holocaust Remembrance Day Program at Cedars-Sinai. The event, scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on May 2 in Harvey Morse Auditorium, also will feature music and prayers of mourning.

Circle of Friends Honorees for March

The Circle of Friends program honored 373 people in March. Circle of Friends allows grateful patients to make a donation in honor of the physicians, nurses, caregivers and others who have made a difference during their time at Cedars-Sinai.

Staff Asked to Be Vigilant After Street Robbery

Employees are reminded to be vigilant around the Cedars-Sinai medical center following a street robbery on Sunday, April 7. No one was injured during the incident. A visitor was walking in a crosswalk at Gracie Allen Drive and George Burns Road around 4 p.m., when a suspect approached from behind and grabbed his clutch bag. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the robbery.

For many women, applying makeup is second nature. But for transgender women who undergo gender transition later in life, makeup application can be a daunting prospect. But the Transgender Surgery and Health Program at Cedars-Sinai offers makeup lessons for transgender patients to provide confidence and human connection. Watch the video.
