Great Debates in Clinical Medicine — June 3

Is social media essential to today's practice of medicine, or is it a threat? On Cedars-Sinai Founders Day, all are welcome to enjoy resident physician discussions on the pros and cons of the use of social media in medicine at the 13th annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine. The debate will take place Friday, June 3, at 8 a.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Ryan Spurrier, MD, will argue that social media represents a threat to professionalism, while Justin Steggerda, MD, will contend that it has become a necessary part of medical practice. This event qualifies for one hour of CME credit.

Popular Medical Imagery and American Attitudes Toward Medicine and Medical Ethics (Ethics Noon Conference) — June 8

The speaker at the Morgenstern Lecture in History, Ethics and Medicine will be Bert Hansen, PhD. His topic will be “Popular Medical Imagery and American Attitudes Toward Medicine and Medical Ethics: What We Can Learn From LIFE Magazine, 1936-1972.” The conference will take place Wednesday, June 8, at noon in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m.

Physician Efficiency Training (PET): Problem List/Histories — June 9

All Cedars-Sinai providers are invited to participate in open forum training sessions to learn how to finish the day faster using CS-Link™. Providers will learn how to empty their InBasket, personalize their note and much more at this free training session. The session will take place Thursday, June 9, from noon-1:30 p.m. in Cafeteria Conference Room C. Normalized Deviation Collaborative — June 29

The collaborative will hear presentations from staff on projects to correct small, chronic occurrences — normalized deviations — that could lead to mistakes. All personnel are welcome. The meeting will take place Wednesday, June 29, at noon in Thalians Auditorium. Lunch will be served. The goal of the projects is to improve patient safety, workflow efficiency, and patient and employee satisfaction throughout Cedars-Sinai.
