AHA to Honor John Harold M.D.

Asher Kimchi, M.D., and P. K. Shah, M.D., Serve as Honorary Medical Chairs

John G. Harold, M.D., immediate past Chief of Staff at Cedars-Sinai, will receive the American Heart Association's prestigious "Passion of the Heart" Award in recognition of his leadership in the field of cardiology on Saturday, April 14, at the 2007 Heart Awards Gala at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

The annual gala is co-chaired by Sanford & David Brokaw of the Brokaw Company. Honorary medical chairs are Asher Kimchi, M.D., a longtime member of the Cedars-Sinai medical staff who received the award last year, and Prediman K. Shah, M.D., director of the Division of Cardiology and the Atherosclerosis Research Center.

Harold currently serves as president of the California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the ACC Governor for Southern California. He is also a board member of numerous organizations, including the American Board of Internal Medicine, Save A Heart Foundation, the Heart Fund at Cedars-Sinai and the UCLA Clinical Faculty Association.

Harold first came to Cedars-Sinai in 1982 to complete his fellowship in cardiology under the direction of his mentor, the late Dr. Jeremy Swan. Harold formally joined the medical staff in 1985 and began his practice in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

Entertainment reporter Pat O'Brien serves as Master of Ceremony for the gala, which will feature entertainment by comedian Dana Carvey and singer Glen Campbell.
