C. Noel Bairey Merz, M.D.,

has been elected to the American Board of Internal Medicine's Subspecialty Board in Cardiovascular Disease. Bairey Merz is medical director of the Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiac Center. She also holds the Women's Guild Endowed Chair in Women's Health and is medical director of the Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai. Her primary area of research interest lies in the development and prevention of women's heart disease, and she chairs the WISE (Women's Ischemic Syndrome Evaluation) study, a multi-center research study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

Joel Geiderman, M.D.,

co-chair of the Emergency Department at Cedars-Sinai, has been re-appointed by President George W. Bush as a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, which is the governing body of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. He will continue to serve the remainder of a five-year term that expires in January 2012. Geiderman has served as a council member since 2002 and was appointed as vice chair of the council in 2005. He also chairs the Holocaust Remembrance Day program at Cedars-Sinai, which will be held this year on April 13 (see the "Meetings & Events" section for more information).
