David V. Cossman, M.D., a vascular surgeon and attending physician at Cedars-Sinai, has volunteered to join the surgery rotation of Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany from May 10-25. Dr. Cossman will join 26 other members of the non-profit Society for Vascular Surgery in relieving the limited number of vascular surgeons in the military who are filling positions in military hospitals in the U.S. and abroad. Landstuhl Regional Medical Center currently treats many of the soldiers injured in Iraq.

Shirin Towfigh, M.D.,(pictured below) has joined Cedars-Sinai as director of the Medical Student Education Program and as a new faculty member in the Division of General Surgery and the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Towfigh performs advanced laparoscopic surgery, with a specialty in complex hernia repair and is a nationally recognized leader in hernia surgery. She is also an accomplished surgical educator and has a strong research background. Before joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Towfigh was assistant professor of Surgery and director of the Medical Student Clerkship in USC's Department of Surgery.
