Odelia Cooper, M.D., Jordan Geller, M.D., and Shlomo Melmed, M.D., have published a paper in the February 12 issue of Nature Clinical Practice Endocrinology & Metabolism entitled "Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome Caused by an FSH-Secreting Pituitary Adenoma." The paper describes the unusual case of a young woman with a pituitary tumor that led to and presented with large ovarian cysts. Dr. Cooper is a senior fellow in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Dr. Geller is an attending physician in the Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Melmed is senior vice president of Academic Affairs and chief academic officer at Cedars-Sinai.

Beth Y. Karlan, M.D., was awarded the Margaret Greenfield/Carmel Cohen Excellence in Ovarian Cancer Research Prize at the 2008 annual meeting of the Society for Gynecologic Oncologists in Tampa on March 11. The award is given annually to a person who has worked to improve women's healthcare through research that includes early detection of cancer. The award is named for and funded by James Greenfield in honor of his wife, Margaret, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer. Dr. Karlan is director of the Women's Cancer Research Institute at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.

Roxy Szeftel, M.D., was given a NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) Exemplary Psychiatrist Award this month during the American Psychiatric Association's annual conference. The award honors the contributions that psychiatrists make to improve the lives of people with psychiatric disorders. Dr. Szeftel is director of Child Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry Training in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai.
