Fundamentals of Jewish Thought - Nov. 1

Jewish Chaplaincy invites everyone to join Rabbi Jason Weiner's "Fundamentals of Jewish Thought" on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. in the Chapel.

Women's Health Symposium - Nov. 2

Women and ischemic heart disease and improving the quality of care for women with pelvic floor disorders will be discussed at the Women's Health Symposium on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Harvey Morse Rooms 4 and 5. C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, director of the Women's Heart Center and Preventive Cardiac Center at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, and Jennifer T. Anger, MD, MPH, associate director of Urological Research in the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai, will speak. Light refreshments will be provided. Art and Social Consciousness: The Theater as Healer - Nov. 4

Cedars-Sinai Emeritus Physicians Society presents Gordon Davidson, former CEO and director of the Center Theater Group, for the 4th Bernard Strauss Lecture on Friday, Nov. 4, from noon to 1 p.m., in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The lecture is free and open to all. Lunch is free for members, $15 for non-members with reservations, and $20 for those without reservations. Brain Tumor Research 5K/10K Run/Walk - Nov. 6

Team Tumor Terminators will be among those from Cedars-Sinai participating in the Race for Research, which benefits brain tumor research, on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles. You can sign up to run or walk a 5K or a 10K for $30. Children are welcome to take part in the Kids Fun Run for $15. For more information, visit heroesofhoperace.org.

Atoms, Einstein and the Universe - Nov. 8

Robert Piccioni, PhD, a physicist, author, educator and high-tech entrepreneur will discuss almost all the major discoveries of modern physics, astronomy and cosmology at this Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association event on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Harvey Morse Auditorium. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the presentation follows at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission, payable by cash or check, is $15 for the general public and Cedars-Sinai employees and $5 for paid alumni members, those in training and Cedars-Sinai volunteers. Mengele Survivor to Speak at IRB Education Session - Nov. 11

The Office of Research Compliance and Quality Improvement will welcome guest speaker Eva Kor, a survivor of Auschwitz and Josef Mengele's twin experiments, and founder of CANDLES Holocaust Museum. She will discuss the importance of informed consent when conducting research with human participants. Cedars-Sinai researchers are highly encouraged to attend. Attendees will receive one IRB continuing education credit. Box lunches will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP to irb@cshs.org is required. The session will be held on Friday, Nov. 11, from noon to 1 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium.

Update on Industry Relations and Compliance Issues - Nov. 15

The Center for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine of the Ob/Gyn Department will sponsor this program with David Blake, PhD, vice president of Corporate Compliance at Cedars-Sinai.
